Ner Tamid Society

The Ner Tamid Society is an Honor Roll for members of Beth El Synagogue who either

  • Personally start an endowment fund
  • Are honored with an endowment fund in their names
  • Make bequests or planned gifts of any amount to benefit any program at Beth El Synagogue

Endowments are gifts that are eternal because they never stop giving. Bequests and planned gifts are received when a member enters into “eternal life.” Such permanent gifts deserve special recognition.

Ner Tamid Society FAQ

Is there a minimum donation required to be enrolled in the Ner Tamid Society? The minimum donation for an endowment fund is $5,000, payable over a maximum of three years. There is no minimum requirement for a bequest or planned gift, since these often are dependent on the value of an estate.

If I’m making a bequest or other planned gift, how will Beth El know about it? If Beth El is already in your estate plans, you should submit a copy of the documentation that proves your intent to the Beth El Development Office, or sign a Declaration of Intent document which the Development Director can provide for you. The Declaration of Intent is just that; it is not legally binding on your estate.

What happens if I make a contingent bequest and there’s nothing left in my estate to fulfill it? You still will be recognized. We realize that such things happen. It’s your intent that matters when it comes to recognition in these situations.

What happens if I join the Ner Tamid Society? Members of the Ner Tamid Society

  • Have their names inscribed in a special Book of Life to be displayed in the Beth El Synagogue lobby.
  • Receive a pin to wear proudly at Beth El events, or anywhere.
  • New members are recognized at a special service annually.

Do I have to join the Ner Tamid Society if I make one of these kinds of gifts? No. Many members wish to be anonymous. Recognition of members is strictly voluntary, but it’s highly recommended. Beth El wants to be sure to thank you properly for your intentions during your lifetime. Also, your name on the membership list may inspire others to follow your example.
